On October 27, Jacqueline Couti, the Laurence H. Favrot Professor of French Studies, discussed her brand new book Sex, Sea, and Self (Liverpool University Press, 2021) with journalist Philippe Tray of Outre-mer la 1ère in the interview, " "Il y a eu des façons multiples de discuter de l'identité et de la condition noires." In this book, she examines works by writers from Martinique and Guadeloupe published between 1924 and 1948, addressing questions of race and gender, citizenship, sexuality, and national belonging.
