From Court to Culture: Rice Owls Prep for Europe with French Language and Etiquette Workshops

Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Fache, Couti, and Sainte-Claire

Before taking their game to Europe, the Rice Owls took a deep dive into French language and culture. In a unique collaboration between Athletics and the School of Humanities, the men’s basketball team participated in immersive workshops led by Professors Jacqueline Couti, Caroline Fache, and Linsey Sainte-Claire. From learning how to say "hello" and "foul" in French to building cross-cultural confidence, the players gained the tools to be not just athletes abroad—but global ambassadors for Rice.

French Studies is fortunate to have such dedicated and inspiring colleagues as Dr. Fache and Dr. Sainte-Claire, who organized and led most of the two sessions.

Brandi Smith writes about that experience. Click here for more pictures and to read her article.
